The anthology is a collection of poets, 98{b8f043770e4071302fec5a6e6fdc477566e775f5f6a23ad0c4136f32de3203a4} of whom are Native (2{b8f043770e4071302fec5a6e6fdc477566e775f5f6a23ad0c4136f32de3203a4} outstanding poets who have read for us and are continually involved in the community out here), who have read in the NACC Spoken Word Series over the years. Many have lived in the Bay Area in the past and many more reside here today.
The anthology will include several well known and talented artists (Lance Hensen, Abena Songbird, Trevino Brings Plenty, Duane Big Eagle & more) and some who are not as well known (but you know some of them: Mari Sol Crisostomo-Romo, Sebastian Zavala, Istuyee Snow and more).
Our hope is that this pairing will not only demonstrate a broader, inter-generational voice, but also recognize lesser known talented artist. The age range of the anthology right now is 7-70. It’s also exciting because it will be such a big collection of great Native poets from the Bay (mostly) from a spoken word series which began during the Red Power movement. We hope it will also be used at the college level in various departments.
We are currently looking at different publishers to find a fit for the anthology. After publication, it will be for sale locally, though we don’t know where yet. Any funds raised in book sales (if any) will go to NACC and right back into supporting the arts. There will also be a release party and reading when the anthology comes out, so check back at the website for the date.
