Second Annual American Indian Cultural Event

Join San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom for the Second Annual American Indian Cultural Event, recognizing the valuable contributions American Indians have made to the diversity and richness of the City. The day celebrates the first residents of San Francisco, featuring American Indian cultural and educational presentations, music and drums, Pow Wow dancing in full traditional tribal regalia, food, arts and crafts, storytelling, historical displays, and many other events throughout the day. Throughout the plaza, there will be educational and cultural exhibits, traditional American Indian dancers, storytelling, food, crafts, a silent auction, and a display of tribal flags. Perfect for class visits by school children.

NACC’s dance company Earth Dance Theater begins a month-long auditioning process in preparation for its spring showcase. If you are a dancer with dance training (any of the following are fine: indigenous, latin, ballet, modern, jazz, or hip hop) or a specialty act (aerial, tap, fire, comedy, acrobatics, etc.) or a dance group with talent in one of the areas mentioned above, contact us at earthdanceth@yahoo.com. Sonically sensual, visually inventive and theatrically arresting, the dances of Mexico City choreographer Tania Pérez-Salas reframe how we think about Contemporary Latin American dance. This varied program offers a rich palette of experiences. Las Horas is playfully tongue-in-cheek rococco, Anabiosis has a sweaty, angular earthiness, while Visitor is dreamlike and sensuous. Presented in conjunction with two visual arts programs that focus on Mexico-City based contemporary artists: Sensacional! Mexican Street Graphics, and Underplayed: A Mix-Tape of Music-Based Videos.

This is a non-competitive social event. This pow-wow will provide our
youth an opportunity to be introduced to the appropriate social and
cultural interactions of the Pow-Wow Etiquette. There will be Cultural
Sharing with Aztec Dancing, Hoop Dancing and Gourd Dancing. We will also have jewerly/arts and crafts vendors, food (hot dogs) and youth
activities. “Dancing Feathers” is the SF Youth Pow-wow Dance Class that
